Staff Pick Notes

English sparkling wine is one the hidden gems of the bubbly world, and Hambledon sets the standard for quality in the country. I've always loved classic Champagne, but until recently haven't ventured much into the chalky soils of southern England. These soils are part of the Newhaven Chalk Formation formed 65 million years ago that make up a large area of the best Chardonnay zones of the Côtes des Blancs in Champagne. The climate is cooler than Champagne with a longer ripening period, which allows the grapes to develop subtle nuances not found elsewhere. Founded in 1952 by Major-General Sir Guy Salisbury-Jones, Hambledon is the birthplace of English Wine, and today they use this experience to craft incredibly delicious wines that rival Champagne in their precision, texture, and complexity. A true joy for life's special moments!

It is a flexible, eager-to-please grape, responding well to just about anything a winemaker...
