Benchmark Top Floor Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Benchmark, which takes its name from the two brothers who placed “bench marks” in the area north of Frankfort, KY in the 1700s, was started by Seagrams in the 1960’s before being bought by Sazerac in late 80’s. The Sazerac team moved production to the Buffalo Trace Distillery and started making the Benchmark line with the same low-rye mash bill (75% corn, with an unknown blend of rye and malted barley) used in their higher end expressions like Eagle Rare, E.H. Taylor, and Stagg. The Top Floor Kentucky is aged in a warm, humid environment that concentrates flavors designed to mimic top floor Stagg: aromas of caramel, vanilla, and tropical fruit give way to a smooth, sweet palate.
