From old vine Kékfrankos vineyards on the hill of Sióagárd-Lányvár outside of Székszárd, the grapes saw a few hours on the skins. Fermented and aged in stainless steel, this dry rosé is medium-bodied and complex. Red fruit, citrus, and herbal aromas abound. Pair with Újházi chicken soup.

At last, we are carrying the calling card wine of Hungary's King of Rosé! Tamás Dúzsi (pronounced "Doozy", but zhuzh it up) makes about 25 different types of wine, but it is his rosé from 100% estate-grown organic Kékfrankos (aka Blaufränkisch) that he's known best for. Dúzsi is one of the most widely respected winemakers in Hungary, a leader in slow/sustainable winemaking, and his rosé has won countless awards over the years. Needless to say, I've been intrigued! This rose is dry and fruity, bringing bright pomegranate, watermelon, a touch of earthiness and dried herbs to the palate. It's mineral and refreshing, a wine that begs to be sipped with abandon. Pairs fabulously with aged goat cheese or hot honey-roasted chicken over fennel and potatoes.
