Macurichos Astor Select Madrecuishe Mezcal - 2022

The peak of karwinskii agaves for many folks, this batch made an impression on us not just to find it out of its native and prolific home further down the road in Miahuatlan, but especially so because of Macurichos' commitment to traditional clay pot distillation. After 10 minutes or so to let the spirit properly open up, the profile turns intensely fruity with the focus on ultra-ripe sunkissed citrus fruits. The succulent palate is the softest of this trio of recent batches and full of nuanced notes including fresh almonds, cayenne pepper, coconut, milk chocolate and wild raspberry. Bottled exclusively for us complete with a stunning one-off custom label this batch yielded only 60 precious bottles.
