Macurichos Astor Select Cirial Barril Mezcal - 2018

A summer batch, distilled in August 2018, of two karwinskii agaves that are both a specialty of this producer particularly in ensemble form like this one. The Sernas family are the last hold-outs of uber traditional mezcales in this village. Surrounded by larger commercial interests that vaugely resemble the virtues of authentic mezcal production, Gonzalo and family have entrenched themselves even deeper into artisanal production. Rested in glass demi-john in the family cellars with zero temperature control and nothing added ever, the profile has become deeply focused around a core of citrus, honey, sugar plums and earthy spices. we tasted and selected this batch with Gonzalo at the cellar in Oaxaca and had the entire batch bottled exclusively for us complete with an inspired custom one-off label created in collaboration with Maestro Mezcalero Gonzalo Sernas himself.
