Cuish Astor Select Batch Pulquero-Cerrudo Mezcal

Every year, our esteemed spirits buyer travels down to Oaxaca with the goal of bringing back something unique. Luckily for New Yorkers, last January’s trip yielded a truly exceptional mezcal in the form of a single batch Pulquero-Cerrudo. This spirit is the handiwork of Hermógenes Vasquez, a third generation mezcalero based in Logoche, San Luis Amatlán, who has been cultivating maguey and producing mezcal alongside his wife, Paula, for 35 years. For years, Vasquez has produced mezcal for Neta, one of the most esteemed brands in Oaxaca, and recently started selling to Cuish. This batch, made with the addition of a small amount of pulque, is pristine: aromas of underripe melon, pineapple, and lime blossom give way to a rich, mineraly palate with a slightly spicy finish.
