A first for us, a Pinot Noir from the village of Tsagvli in Kartli in the east of Georgia. Delightfully aromatic on the palate, lively, fresh and red-berried. After hand-harvesting, the grapes were destemmed and fermented with the skins in qvevri and then racked into tank to settle through the year before bottling.

Irakli Cholobargia (aka Cholo) is somewhere between winemaker and mad genius - just take a look at his labels, tasting notes, and website! Pick up a bottle of his Pinot Noir and you have something truly incredible to experience. Yes, this is a Pinot Noir (with a little Takveri and CabSauv) from Kartli, Georgia, and yes he notes the tastes of rotten berries. These grapes come from over 45 year old vines and are handpicked before a short maceration in traditional qvevri. The result is your new favorite chillable red! I got more of an unripe cranberry vibe rather than rotten, along with something herbaceous like eucalyptus or thyme. If you fear the funk, this is a safe start into the world of funky/natty low intervention wines - although it may look scary give the Wet Dog a chance!
