What's my desert island wine you ask? Riesling would be one of the top contenders. They can be extraordinary wines so my expectations are always high when approaching a glass. The stakes are higher for me than with any other grape because I know the payoff can be so great. And when it delivers, it really delivers. Petrol notes? check, orchard fruits? check. Racy, stony, chalky? check. This has all the notes I love in just the right amount. Perfectly balanced, harmonious, elegant and with a pedigree you can feel good about. This is from a single vineyard with minimal intervention, using natural yeast. Sybille Kuntz is much less well know than Eva Fricke, but her wines are made with the same exacting care.
