Staff Pick Notes

My wine journey started with California. My in-laws had moved out there and every time we’d visit a wine trip would be tagged on to the end, so Napa cabs will always be close to my heart. Clos du Val (“small vineyard estate of a small valley”) was founded in ‘72 and is still under original ownership. Their first vintage was included in the history making Judgment of Paris. The French demanded a re-match ten years later, the very same wine won first place the second time around. The ‘19 saw slightly less oak than previous vintages, allowing vibrant red fruit flavors and bright acidity to shine. Black cherry, eucalyptus and tarragon enchant the nose and lead us to an incredibly balanced palate of baked plum, black currant, licorice and chocolate, wrapped in ultra-smooth tannins. Vanilla and spice on a long luxurious finish. Sublime.
