St. George Pear Brandy

Item # 30560 750mL

Incredible purity right out of the gate on the nose here. This was the first product St. George ever made as a distillery back in 1982 and it is still one of the best. The Bartlett pears sourced here are entirely organic and dry farmed for maximum quality and ripeness and about 30 pounds go into making one bottle. The palate is medium-bodied and fruity at first, but the spiciness from the pear marries very well to the mouth-watering acidity. The finish turns floral and hangs on delicately.

Staff Pick Notes

Most staff picks for eau de vie have to make the case that such a small quantity of expensive distillate is worthwhile. While it absolutely is for some of us, I understand why it might seem like a waste to conceal their precious intensity in cocktails. St. George has come to the rescue with American fruit brandies priced comparably to certain flavored vodkas and only a million times better-- thirty pounds of pears go into each bottle. The nose is so potent and when you finally do taste, your palate will be coated with the lingering impression of juicy, green, pears. Try swapping it out for half or all of the gin in any refreshing recipe. This makes a wonderful sour when shaken with lemon juice and simple syrup, or cut out the shaker and add this to lemonade. Play around with the possibilities, you're worth it.

Glossary

California

California makes more wine than any other state in the United States. Not only does the state grow a variety of noble grape varieties like Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, there are also plantings of lesser-known varieties such as Nebbiolo, Roussanne and Mourvèdre to name just a few.
