Staff Pick Notes

Tuscan wines have the acidity and tannin to evolve over many years, however many people don't have the means to cellar wines for decades until they're ready. The Brunello di Montalcino by Brizio is a beautiful example of well-aged Sangiovese that's ready to drink now. The tense tannins have smoothed out into soft, silky richness. The acidity and fruit are still fresh, but you will notice secondary characteristics of dried roses and violets, earthiness and soft leather. This Brunello is such a treat and a steal at this price. I was so impressed by how well it's drinking now that I would suggest buying a case and drinking it all this year. There will be sediment at the bottom of the bottle, decanting is recommended. A full-bodied wine such as this pairs very well with lamb, veal, or strong cheeses.

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano shows the softer side of the grape, containing up to 20% of other varieties. Young Chianti often smells of fresh fruit and herbs, while Chianti Classico Riserva can be dark and brooding. The term “Super Tuscans”...
