This liqueur is a mixture of herbs and flavors built from an "authentic recipe" that has been "safeguarded" by the company over the decades. It is meant to represent the best of Italian liqueurs. Its soft, subtle, sweet, citrus is offset by a pleasant bitterness.
This is a great entry to the world of Amaro. Cio Ciaro occupies a nice middle ground between the more bitter and herbaceous Fernet Branca and the less bitter and sweeter Meletti or Nonino. If you've been scared off by the painful bitterness of some Amaros, Cio Ciaro is a soft place to begin again. Sweet herbs and spices are balanced nicely with strong citrus notes and backed by a bitter mineral gentian core. It was created in 1873 by Vincenzo Paolucci and is still produced by the Paolucci family.
