Zierfandler Classic, Stadlmann - 2022

750 mL
Item # 22310

In the rolling hills of Austria’s Thermenregion, just 20 minutes south of Vienna, the Stadlmann family has tended the vine since 1780. Zierfandler is perhaps easier to drink than pronounce. It's a native white grape from lower Austria. Dry, medium-bodied and simply delicious to sip. Fermented with naturally occurring yeasts in large, neutral Viennese oak barrels.

Staff Pick Notes

This has quickly become a keep-one-in-the-fridge bottle for me. Often blended with its counterpart Austrian varietal, Rotgipfler, it's lovely to experience Zierfandler on its own. This expression from Stadlmann doesn't shy away from its aromatic qualities, showing lots of prickly pear, zesty lemon and lime, and delicate white florals. All of this finds balance in its surprising amount of structure due to four months of sitting on the lees after fermentation. This bottle is a great alternative to dry Riesling or even Chenin drinkers. Try a glass on its own while you make dinner and notice how it comes to life alongside your meal. Go for lighter protein choices like chicken or fish with Spring veggie roasts and sip away!
