Terre Brûlée Chenin Blanc - 2021

Item # 34921 750mL

The Swartland region of South Africa is teeming with winemakers who are landing very old vines (well above 70 years) and making incredible wines as a result. This comes from winemakers Tania and Vincent Carême, natives of the Loire, who fell in love with the region and haven't looked back. Dry-farmed, mineral driven and full of delicious character.

Staff Pick Notes

100% Chenin Blanc. 5 words: Mouthwatering, Orange Blossom, Hay, Quince. Chenin Blanc has many delicious expressions, and this one from the hot climate and decomposing granitic soils of the Swartland is no exception. Winemaker Vincent Carême hails from the Loire Valley, but has always been drawn to the winemaking regions of South Africa. His expertise in Chenin Blanc is obvious, but the terroir here makes this bottle something special. The vines are totally dry-farmed and over 40 years old. The dry heat in a mountainous area, and the meticulous work both in the vineyard and winery leads to a ripe, but incredibly balanced wine with bright, harmonious acidity.

Chenin Blanc

A versatile grape that is grown worldwide, but is most commonly associated with the Loire, California, Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand. It produces just about any type of wine you can think of: ageworthy dessert wines; delicious, honeyed dry whites; sparklers; and even bases for fortified wines and spirits. These days, one of the most exciting stories is in South Africa, where newly adopted winemaking technologies have helped a dedicated group of producers to bring the country's dry...
