Tschida "Himmel auf Erden" Weiss - 2024

750 mL
Item # 35069

An aromatic blend of Weissburgunder and Scheurebe that's foot-trodden and then fermented in large barrels with indigenous yeasts. Aged for a year in barrel and bottle unfiltered with no addition of sulphur. Christian Tschida has the great fortune to cultivate 10-hectares of old vines that have been with his family for 4 generations. The winery is located in the Neusiedlersee part of Burgenland, the eastern most point of Austria. The vineyards consist of sandy gravel, schist and limestone, which all enjoy a moderating influence from the extremely large and nearby Lake Neusiedler.

Staff Pick Notes

If you see bottles of any of Christian Tschida’s wine in one of our bins, grab it. It may not be there tomorrow. Himmel auf Erden (Heaven on Earth) features an etching of Tschida’s late artist friend Alfred Hrdlicka on the bottle’s label. You'll see musicians and an audience reveling and embracing the Bacchanalian spirit. You could say that Tschida’s wine embodies the spirit of otherworldly enjoyment. Himmel auf Erden, the wine, evokes a myriad of sensations that seem part of the immaterial world. The aromas are a melange of hay, nuts, spice, cocoa butter, and citrus. There is also a bracing acidity to surprise the palate tucked just beneath its rich texture. Flashes of ginger, apples, and citrus flavors continue to delight the palate. It’s a wonderful white to pair with winter squash dishes, roast chicken, and Swiss Alpine cheeses.
