Mâcon-Cruzille "Les Genevrières", Domaine Guillot-Broux - 2022

750 mL
Item # 36971

The wines of Domaine Guillot-Broux are entirely redefining fine Burgundy from the Mâcon. The vineyard site of Les Geniévrières was planted in the mid-1980s on a rediscovered parcel of land that has been farmed organically from the start. This is pure deliciousness and the older Chardonnay vines have added dense fruit on the palate. Aged for 10 months in oak casks (10% new). This can be aged for many years to come but is dangerously drinkable at release.

Staff Pick Notes

Emmanuel Guillot-Broux has been running this domaine with his siblings since 2000, and he believes the key to purity and power in the wines is the attention paid to the vines. He is quick to point out that old vines do not always produce better wines; how the canes have been pruned, how they have been grafted, and how closely together the vines have been planted all make a difference. He states, confidently, that vines planted on his vineyard in the '80s, such as the ones that go into this cuvee, make better wines than those planted in the '50s, for the reasons stated above. This wine, for me, is exactly what one would want from a great Macon-Cruzille: Chardonnay, captured in high definition. From the enticing oaky aroma to the bright fruit to the satisfyingly salty finish, this wine is bold and captivating.

More About This Wine

Burgundy

The range of wine styles offered in Burgundy rivals that of any other region. In Chablis, Chardonnay is left unoaked to produce lean, crisp, steely wines with incredible acidity - a far cry from the vanilla-oak bombs that so many consumers associate with this grape. Fans of rich, unctuous, and well-oaked Chardonnay will enjoy Chassagne-Montrachet, whose age-worthy offerings offer all the fatness of a California wine, yet retain a very Burgundian, mineral-driven core and great acidity....

Chardonnay

From Champagne to Chablis, it's hard (not to mention unpleasant) to avoid this famous white variety. During a huge popularity surge beginning in the late 1980s, Chardonnay plantings have increased dramatically -- not only in California's wine country, with which the variety is nearly synonymous, but also in Burgundy (its original, Old World home) and just about everywhere else in the winemaking world. It is a flexible, eager-to-please grape, responding well to just about anything a winemaker...
