Cappelletti, one of the masters of traditional Italian liqueurs, uses assenzio wormwood as the bitter base for Alta Verde. It’s surrounded with a bouquet of herbaceous and fresh citrus-focused botanicals that lend the amaro complexity but keep it from becoming heavy or astringent. Definitely one that should be worked into your rotation of great bitters.
This amaro is not for the faint of heart. That's the first thing you should know about it. If your tastes are similar to mine and intense bitterness is high on your list, then you'll totally dig Amaro Alta Verde. Seemingly benign on the nose with just a hint of lightly herbal sweetness, the game totally changes once this lands on your palate. Refreshingly minty followed by a blast of radicchio-like bitterness, this won't let you forget about it for a while. If you want to talk about a digestivo with a lengthy finish, this is an ideal example. If you'd like to balance the bitterness with some other flavors add Alta Verde to an agave based cocktail or serve it with citrus and soda. No matter how you drink it, you can't go wrong.
