Grüner Veltliner

Referred to by many Americans as "Gru-Ve," this white variety is nearly synonymous with Austrian wine. It's becoming wildly popular at the moment, especially compared to its obscure origins: it's known as the ultimate food wine for its great minerality and appealing freshness. The wines are consistent and eminently drinkable at the low end, and, on the premium side of things, full-bodied, long-lived, world-class whites.
