Giuseppe Mazzocolin has been at the helm of Fattoria di Fèlsina for 3 decades. His wines are stellar examples of Chianti Classico, with complexity and ageability that often rival Brunello di Montalcino. 2006 proved to be a solid vintage in Tuscany, with a long and warm growing season. The wines demonstrate great balance between elegance and power. This Chianti is worthy of a leisurely meal that allows it to reveal what a decade of age can do for a wine. Out of the bottle it remains tense with tannin, but after a half hour the dark cherry fruit really sings. It paired wonderfully with classic Turkish dishes of grilled Adana lamb and Hünkar Begendi, a creamy smoked eggplant accompaniment.
