Staff Pick Notes

Since the mid-70s Guy Bocard has been quietly making finely crafted wines from his base in the village of Meursault. Recently he brought in one of Burgundy's star winemakers, Philippe Pacalet, and his son, so his under-the-radar status isn't likely to last long. He has 8 hectares made up of 25 individual plots, all farmed organically. The Vieilles Vignes comes from four parcels with vines more than 30 years old. Aged in French oak for one year, then 6 months in stainless steel, this wine is a showstopper. There's a touch of oak with lemon, butter and almonds and an electric acidity that keeps it all lifted. It's intense and beautifully complex without being heavy. It's everything you want a Meursault to be.

It is a flexible, eager-to-please grape, responding well to just about anything a winemaker...
