Spätburgunder "Aus den Lagen", Christmann - 2022

750 mL
Item # 54485

The basis of this wine, Aus den Lagen Pinot Noir, is a red wine made from estate-vines of top sites blended into this sort of "second wine". A super second you should say "yes" to as the structure and finesse are supreme. The grapes come from batches of Gimmeldinger Kapellenberg and Mussbacher Eselhaut. Aged in barrique 16 months.

Staff Pick Notes

Weingut Christmann was established in 1798 in the Pfalz subregion, a magical corner east of the Mosel. With a moderate elevation and a favorable rain-shadow from the protected valley vineyards, Christmann wines are highly regarded for a nimble and lively profile that show true varietal purety. Today Weingut Christmann is managed by 7th-generation owner Steffen Christmann and his daughter Sophie. The 2022 "Aus den Lagen" is 100% Spätburgunder, our as the world knows it Pinot Noir. With hand harvested grapes, the wine is vinified partially whole cluster and rested in French barriques for 16 months. Wild raspberry and black cherry greet with a lovely spice undertone, subtle notes of salt and stone give this wine a wonderful sense of place. The oak is nearly transparent, but a long lingering sip shows undeniable maturity.

Terroir, the concept that wines from a specific region have unique and identifiable traits, is intricately...

Germany

German wines are some of the most jubilantly fruity bottles in the world. The country's Rieslings have been prized worldwide for centuries, yet they have never quite caught on in the U.S.: this no doubt due to Germany’s arcane system of wine classification. The most useful words to know on German wine labels are “Kabinett,” which indicates an outstanding everyday wine, and “trocken,” which means “dry.” As far as dessert wines go, a half-bottle of German Eiswein is so potent that you'll be able...
