Staff Pick Notes

As someone who was raised on bigger, bolder (admittedly often Italian) wines, it took me a while to come to appreciate the delicacy and the intrigue of Burgundy, France. Thank goodness I found Passetoutgrain! A glass consistently deep and reassuring garnet in color with seductive notes of violet flowers, and dark fruit flavors of fig jam. This traditional melding of Pinot Noir and Gamay delivered the combination of power and finesse I needed to start my Burgundy journey. For this exceptional example, the Chevillon Brothers, Bertrand and Denis, fifth-generation managers of their property in Nuits- Saint-Georges have blended 1/3 Pinot Noir and 2/3 Gamay from a combined 1.5 acres of property and an average age of 45-year-old vines. Bottled after approximately 16 months of aging.

Terroir, the concept that wines from a specific region have unique and identifiable traits, is intricately...

Fans of rich, unctuous, and well-oaked Chardonnay will enjoy Chassagne-Montrachet, whose age-worthy offerings offer all the fatness of a California wine, yet retain a very Burgundian, mineral-driven core and great acidity....
