Pinot Noir, "Unter den Terrassen", Umathum - 2018

Item # 47388 750mL

Sourced from vineyards at the foot of ancient terraces walls made from volcanic stone, this exceptional Pinot Noir comes from Jois. Located across Neusiedlersee from most of their vineyards, this plot was painstakingly restored. Rich, full-bodied, tannic Pinot Noir with red fruit and spice aromas, this is an exceptional dry red. Pair with duck schnitzel.

Staff Pick Notes

When looking at Austrian red wines I often times focus primarily on Saint Laurent and Blaufrankish, why drink Austian Pinot? Leave that to the Burgundians and the Germans. However, this completely blows that judgement out of the water with a high quality and elegantly styled wine. This wine I find deceptively light in color because on the palate it was a fairly fuller-bodied Pinot with elegant, slightly grippy tannins and almost a slight rustic quality. Expect notes of tart cherries and very expressive baking spice notes of clove and allspice. To me this bottle screams a romantic evening. Drink this on a special evening with a stunning date and pan seared duck breast.

Terroir, the concept that wines from a specific region have unique and identifiable traits, is intricately...
