Viré Clessé "Foretille", Domaine Ste. Barbe - 2022

750 mL
Item # 52155

From an old vine parcel on marl and limestone soils, this fresh yet concentrated dry white is aged in French oak barrels, some of which are new. Definitely a candidate to age in the cellar, pair this robust white with scallops in butter and sumac sauce.

Staff Pick Notes

Situated in the town of Viré, around 12 miles North East of the other Macon villages, Jean-Marie Chaland is producing world class expressions of Chardonnay. With grapes growing on two estates, maintained with organic viniculture and using only native yeast during fermentation, the experience of this wine is quintessential Bourgogne. The nose is inviting, but bold with tart green fruit and a flinty earthen note. The 16-months of maturation, 50% vat - 50% barrel creates a structured, complex, toasty palate with a lovely mineral tension.

It is a flexible, eager-to-please grape, responding well to just about anything a winemaker...
